More Poetry

Both poems are about past friendships that are no longer. Both poems suck. Enjoy.

My King
So consumed was I
(not in loving you),
I could not see that your feet touched the ground.

So in love was I
(with the idea of you),
I could not acknowledge you were but a child.

And you and I would sing like birds in the cage,
Unwitting of our incarceration;
Not realizing our precious time together
Was fleeting.

We talked a thousand times
(about nothing at all),
I was sure our bond was cosmic in nature.

I opened my heart to you
(I wish you had too),
But you ever knew yourself but slenderly.

Where were you when I needed you most?
Where are you now that we're grown
And I understand
The difference between envy and love?

My Saint
Pluck the branch of a willow tree
Make a crown of thorns for your righteous head
Look down on me
From your two inch heels and what's left unsaid.

I wanted to know you
I wanted to think that I knew you.
You were always ahead of me
With your secret lies and false kind words.

Love is something I've learned to live without,
Love s something you actively spurn.
What's all your religion about
Except kindling on which a martyr can burn?

Your piety disgusts me;
It has nothing to do with God.
Searching for salvation instructions
In a holy book with a wink and a nod.

The answers are waiting behind door number two;
So unoriginal in two-dimensional devotion.
Now I want no part of you,
It seems all we did was go through the motions.

Love is something I can find outside my front door;
That's a lesson I could never help you to learn.
What's all your precious religion for
Except kindling on which a martyr can burn?
